Pineapple gets to the core of fitness

“With many people opting for a fitness-themed New Year’s resolution, reporter Lauren Everitt took to the treadmill for one-on-one training. And it was not long before she became a fitness fanatic.

After 10 hours of working up a sweat over the past few weeks at Wentworth Personal Training Studio, it soon became apparent I was becoming ever-so-slightly addicted to exercise thanks to my instructor, Mike Clark.

But before I burned a single calorie or put one foot on a treadmill, my personal trainer went through my weekly routine in detail.

To design a fitness programme suited specifically for the individual needs of the client, questions about diet and regular exercise are asked.

Those wanting to get fit also undergo a weight and height measurement plus a BMI (Body Mass Index) which gives an indication of body fat.

As an earlybird swimmer, my fitness was average but could have been better considering my age (21) but Mike quickly devised a plan involving an equal balance of cardio and weights as well as using the infamous Pineapple (pictured), which provides a whole body vibration.

It allows every cell in your body to ‘speak to your core’, giving a high-intensity, fat-burning workout in as little as 20 minutes.

Programmes can be created for those who want to lose or gain weight, increase strength, beat stress, pre- or post-natal depression or improve wellbeing.

I quickly became accustomed to using the treadmill, rowing machine cross-trainer and bike as well as free weights and medicine balls and it was not long before the studio in Virginia Water became my second home.

I especially enjoyed boxing and taking out the stress of my day on Mike’s hand pads!
Exercising hard gives rapid results and i have to say i felt a lot fitter and more toned after only three or four sessions- although a lot of this came down to Mike’s enthusiastic approach.

Chatting is permanently on the agenda and it really does take your mind off the task at hand and before you know it, your hour of burning calories is up.

Personal training is definitely the way to go for those of you who can’t get to grips with working out in a gym or find it a mundane task and I would definitely recommend it.”
